Ok, I am trying import my wordpress.com blog to ipage for hosting because my blog is commercial and I want to sell advertisements and products through the site. I have tried several times, with no luck, to use wordpress.org and I am wondering if I can simply import my wordpress.com blog over to ipage and add a custom theme to the site and sell advertising and products. I have got two domain names and i uploaded files and i can see the same files on both domains how would i upload files to just one of the domains?

You lost me. On your iPage account, you have a primary domain. That’s one domain. In order to have another domain, you have to create an addon domain. When you do that, it creates a folder in the root for that domain name. Upload your files to it.

BTW, where’d you buy your domain names from? Next time give NameCheap a shot.

Out of iPage, Host Monster, Blue Host – anyone used any of these for domain names + hosting? Which one(s) have you had good or bad experiences with? Can you recommend another if you got good service?

The best place to buy domain names is from the source… a domain name registrar. It’s the absolute cheapest way. I always use this NameCheap coupon code. Buying a domain name from a web host is more expensive because they’re a middle man and they have to make a profit. The only cheaper option is to take the free domain name offer when you buy web hosting, but then you don’t own the domain name, the web host does.

This seems gimmicky to me. They make it sound like unless you pay this fee they won’t backup any of your data on their servers, but this sounds ridiculous to me for a hosting company. Does anyone know what this actually means?

It’s not a gimmick. You can always create your own backups, but people tend to forget about doing it until it’s too late. iPage‘s Site Backup is only for the file system. So if you’re running any database apps like WordPress, you will need to backup the database on your own, but that can be done with a WordPress plugin.

Another thing the site backup does is allow you to easily recover single files. If the client doesn’t need site backups right now, they can always add it on later. You don’t have to get it now.

You didn’t need an FTP program. iPage already has the WordPress software in the control panel. You should have logged into your iPage control panel, scrolled to the Software and Addons section, clicked on SimpleScripts, then clicked on WordPress. There is a super simple form that asks where you want to install WordPress. 1-click installation.

The reason you are seeing the under construction page is because the default webpage on your account needs to be deleted. Again, go to your control panel, find the File Manager, go to the root of your account and delete the default.html page. You blog should now display.

BTW, having a Mac has nothing to do with it.
