How do I put a website on my domain name?
Question:
I just bought a domain on Domain.com for 17$ and i don’t understand how i can get my website on the domain? Do i have to have “Web hosting” too to put my website on? If i do can you recommend a good and cheap web hosting website
Answer:
$17 is a lot of money to pay for a domain name. I hope that was for at least 2 years. (Use NameCheap for cheap domain names.)
Yes, you have to buy web hosting. When you do, you’ll be given the names of the nameservers after signup. Then you log into your domain.com control panel and change the nameservers on your domain name to the ones the hosting company gave you. Within a couple of hours (usually sooner) the change will update all around the internet, linking your name to your hosting account. Be sure and log into your web hosting control panel and delete the default.html file in the root directory. That’s a temporary file that’s just there as a placeholder. If you don’t delete it, any site you build won’t display
The easiest way to get a website up and running is to install a WordPress blog. You can install the WordPress software from your web hosting control panel. Depending on the host, they’ll most likely use a software installer like Fantastico or SimpleScripts.
For cheap web hosting, I recommend iPage. My personal favorite is WebHostingHub. I think it runs WordPress faster. At least it does for my blogs. Both are good.
